Rotan crafts in Lampung Barat District residents are increasingly in demand because it can help their economy. One of woven rattan craftsmen in Behind the Hill District of West Lampung, Yamsiah (49) in Liwa, Thursday (18/03/2010), said the craft from the region interested in a lot of visitors.

He said residents are not difficult to get a cane, because the plants that grow in the forests of West Lampung. "For raw materials, did not experience problems, even every week I was able to produce five to six pieces of woven garments and hood food place. Furthermore, rattan prices are relatively cheap," he said.

He said if the Government of West Lampung district can provide capital assistance and training to the public, will certainly have a major impact on the resulting product. "Until now, efforts have not occupied the attention Regency. And if serious attention to the craftsmen, of products that can dihasikan diverse, not just some kind of course," he said.

West Lampung is a cane-producing areas in addition to several other forest products. Rattan raw material prices reached Rp 35,000 - Rp 40,000 per bundle depending on the size.

Meanwhile, other craftsmen at work penggawa West Lampung District, Septo (35) said that if the government is serious about helping crafters, then woven rattan handicraft business in those areas will develop. "Unfortunately when its potential is not in use, let alone people in the region was already proficient in the weave, just give extra lessons, it will produce beautiful woven, and this should be a concern regency," he said.
